Adventures

I most often associated tailgating with football. And my very unsophisticated research tells me some theorize it started in the late 1800s (without actual tail-gates, of course) at intercollegiate games, and other theories claim it became popular in American culture due to the Green Bay Packers.

In this month’s video I shared just a couple of the camping hacks we’ve learned over the years. Some have evolved and some have remained solid, untouched.

I wanted to provide a few more we have found to be essential when heading out in the woods.

Now, if you’ve followed this blog or chatted with me in the store, you know I am a nature guy. Being in the outdoors and especially a National Park is my favorite place to be. And I have had the privilege of experiencing many of our nation’s parks with a pack on my back, many days in the backwoods off the grid and seeing places few have ever seen.

I have to admit as I write this, I’m getting excited, even though the topic for which I’m writing is two months away, I can’t stop thinking about our upcoming family vacation.

As I have shared before, I have a great love for the outdoors, but there is nothing, I mean nothing like visiting one of our 62 national parks. Of the ten parks I’ve visited, only one has been without a backpack on my shoulders and that was Grand Canyon NP.

My wife Emily is a planner (I mean you should see her spreadsheet packing lists – crazy impressive), so when she demanded we start discussing (in February) what our summer vacation maybe this year, I was pushing for a trip to Mount Rushmore. I figured the kids were at the ages that seeing “The Faces” would be a mix of educational as well as fascination.
